The bird (hoopoe) which understood Tawheed better than the "Celebrity" speakers

Seeking Allaah's protection from falling into Shirk - Major or Minor

The First evidence: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said to Abu Bakr:
O Abu Bakr, the Shirk in (this community) is more inconspicuous than the creeping of the ant.

Abu Bakr said: ‘Is there Shirk other than joining partners with Allaah in worship?’

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! The Shirk is more inconspicuous than the creeping of the ant. Shall I not guide you to a thing, which if you say it, will remove from you the small amount of it or major, say:

اللهم إني أعوذ بك أن أشرك بك وأنا أعلم وأستغفرك لما لا أعلم

Allaahumma innee a'oothu bika an 'ushrika bika wa anaa 'a'lamu, wa astaghfiruka limaa laa 'a'lamu.

O Allaah, I seek refuge in You lest I associate anything with You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I know not.
[Al-Adab al-Mufrad (716) and graded as Saheeh by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

The Second evidence: Narrated Abu Moosaa al-Ash`aree that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم addressed us (in a Friday sermon) saying:

O people, save yourselves from Shirk, for it is more inconspicuous than the creeping of the ant.

Someone whom Allaah willed (to speak) asked: ‘How do we save ourselves from it while it is more inconspicuous than the creeping of the ant O Messenger of Allaah?’

Say: O Allaah we seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly, and we seek Your forgiveness for what we do unknowingly.
[Musnad Ahmad (19606) and others - graded as Saheeh by Shaikh al-Albaanee in Saheeh al-Jaami (3731)]

The Third evidence: the Khaleel of Allaah, Ibraaheem عليه السلام, used to fear for himself and his children, and used to seek Allaah's protection and help from ever falling into Shirk:

﴿وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَـٰذَا الْبَلَدَ آمِنًا وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ الْأَصْنَامَ﴾

{And (remember) when Ibraaheem said: “O my Lord! Make this city (Makkah) one of peace and security, and keep me and my sons away from worshiping idols.”}
[Surah Ibraaheem (14): 35]

The definition of Asceticism (al-Zuhd

In the narration mentioned by Ibn Maajah, The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Renounce the world and Allaah will love you, and renounce what the people possess and the people will love you.
[Sunan Ibn Maajah (4102) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
It is not Zuhd that you let go of the Dunya (worldly desires) from your hands while it still lingers in your heart. Zuhd is to let it go from your heart while it is still in your hands.
[Tareeq al-Hijratain (1/252)]

Situations when jesting become a serious offense:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

1) Mocking or making fun of any aspect of the Deen is Kufr:
﴿وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُ ۚ قُلْ أَبِاللَّـهِ وَآيَاتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ * لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا قَدْ كَفَرْتُم بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ﴾

{If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say: "Was it at Allaah, and His Aayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?” Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed.} [Surah al-Tawbah (9): 65-66]

Making fun of any aspect of the Deen or the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم like making fun of the beard or about maintaining the lower garments above the ankles etc.

2) It is counted as a divorce even if the person uttering it was only jesting:
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: There are three matters in which seriousness is serious and joking is serious: marriage, divorce and taking back (one's wife after divorce which is not final). [Sunan Ibn Maajah (2039), Sunan Abu Dawood (2194) and Sunan al-Tirmidhee (1184) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

3) Lying while joking:
Mu’aawiyah ibn Haydah رضي الله عنه said: I heard the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم say: Woe to the one who talks to make the people laugh and tells lies, woe to him, woe to him. [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (2315) and Sunan Abu Dawood (4990) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee].

4) Practical jokes and pranks:
Narrated `Abdullaah ibn as-Saa’ib ibn Yazeed رضي الله عنه: The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: None of you should take the property of his brother in amusement (i.e. jest), nor in earnest. If anyone takes the staff of his brother, he should return it. [Sunan Abu Dawood (5003) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

5) Scaring people:
Narrated `Abdul Rahmaan ibn Abu Layla: The Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم told us that they were travelling with the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. A man among them went to sleep, and another one of them went to the rope which he had with him. He took it, by which he (the one who was sleeping) got frightened. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: It is not lawful for a Muslim that he frightens a Muslim. [Sunan Abu Dawood (5004) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

Removing the Doubts: "Limiting the Names of Allaah to 99" - by Shaikh `Abdul-Razzaaq al-Badr

The Names of Allaah تعالى are not limited to 99 in numbers

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: Whoever knows Allaah through His (Beautiful) Names and (Lofty) Attributes and His (Perfect) Actions, he will undoubtedly love Allaah (more and more). [Madaarij al-Saalikeen (3/18)]

Shaikh `Abdul-Razzaaq Ibn `Abdul Mohsin al-Badr حفظه الله said:
One of the most important principles regarding the Names and Attributes of Allaah تعالى is that the Beautiful Names of Allaah are not confined, nor are they limited to a certain number. In the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, evidences regarding this have been mentioned numerous times - that are clear and bright. From this is what has been mentioned in Saheeh Muslim:

O Ghulaam (O young man)! Learn Tawheed, and know your Lord and worship Him upon that.

Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما was only ten years old when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم passed away. [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5035)]

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم supplicated for him saying: O Allaah give him the understanding of the religion and teach him the interpretation (of al-Qur’aan). [Musnad Ahmad (5/15 & 41) and Authenticated by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (2589). See also Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (75, 3756 & 7270)]

Imaan bil-Qadr (the belief in Predetermination)

Al-Qadaa wal-Qadr (Divine Ordainment and Predetermination)

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:
The sixth fundamental from the fundamentals of Imaan is to: Believe in al-Qadr, the good of it and the bad of it, that all of it is from Allaah

Following the footsteps of the brothers of Yusuf عليه السلام in raising the children?!

Earlier, the whole society would look out for the welfare of the children in the neighborhood. If a child was found outside doing something bad, the uncles in the society would discipline the child even before informing the parents; later they would inform the parents, who would discipline the child even further.

And then times changed and the mentality of the parents changed. They would now fight the uncles in the society for such a thing as even raising an eyebrow at the child. Further down the line, now in some countries the parents can be disciplined for disciplining the children.

Then our condition deteriorated even further. Now, some of the parents join the children in doing lewd and immoral things. The whole meaning of parenthood / parenting / parentage has changed.

Worse still, is the mentality of introducing evil to the children – either by the parents or through school syllabus, all in the pretext of creating awareness in the children.

It is like asking the children to do the sin and then making them to repent! This is like following the footsteps of the brothers of Yusuf عليه السلام; who were determined to commit the sin and had already intended to repent even before committing it.

{(They said): “Kill Yusuf or cast him out to some (other) land, so that the favor of your father may be given to you alone, and after that you will be righteous folk (by repenting).”} [Surah Yusuf (12): 9]

Moreover, this is not the way of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, or his Companions or the pious predecessors. They never introduced their children to evil; rather, they would protect them from evil like how one would protect a child from the scorching heat.

Introducing children to evil is like throwing them into destruction:

﴿وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ﴾

{...and do not throw yourselves into destruction} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 195]

One will not directly say: “let the children do drugs so that they know the evils of drugs”; or “let them consume wine so that they know the evils of intoxication”; or “let them fornicate so that they know its evil impact on the society.” But they will open the backdoors for the children in the form of music, movies and the likes, allowing them to watch scantily dressed people, doing immodest things – considering that earlier even kissing in public or watching people kissing in the movies was considered as something immoral.

{And come not near to unlawful sexual intercourse; for it is a Faahishah (shameful deed) and an evil way (opening the road to other evils).} [Surah al-Israa’ (17): 32]

Allaah تعالى not only prohibited unlawful sex, but He تعالى also instructed to avoid all the paths leading towards it. As the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“The adultery of the eye is the lustful look and the adultery of the ears is listening to voluptuous (song or talk) and the adultery of the tongue is licentious speech and the adultery of the hand is the lustful grip (embrace) and the adultery of the feet is to walk (to the place) where he intends to commit adultery and the heart yearns and desires which he may or may not put into effect.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim and the wordings are his]

In order to close the paths for adultery, Allaah تعالى also instructed that both men and women should lower their gaze and dress up appropriately, as mentioned in Surah al-Noor. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also instructed the people who had the desire but could not marry to observe optional Fasts, which would help them in controlling their desire.

How can we be sure that we will get a chance to seek forgiveness?

The brothers of Yusuf عليه السلام had received the opportunity to repent for their sins, and they repented and were forgiven. But what guarantee do we have that we would be receiving the same opportunity to repent after committing the sin? What assurance do we have that we would not die while we are still engaged in that act of sin? Have we not read the news that many people perished because the disco club caught fire or the movie theatre caught fire or that the walls caved in while people were committing sins?

{Did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment by night while they are asleep? Or, did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment in the forenoon while they are at play? Did they then feel secure against the Plan of Allaah? None feels secure from the Plan of Allaah except the people who are the losers.} [Surah alA`raaf (7): 97-99]

It is a sign of great destruction when we feel secured from the punishment of Allaah.

My mother-in-law would not allow her son to watch “He-Man” because of the blasphemy it contained (he claims to be “master of the universe”), and she is a Christian lady. We, being Muslim, should take even more care in preventing our children from being exposed to such evil.

Then there is “superman”, who is given “god” like powers only to have a silly weakness. Then there is the concept of “Time Traveling”, all these things are aiming to harm the `Aqeedah (Creed) of the children from their childhood.

Then there are immoral cartoons such as “Snow White” who shown to be living in seclusion with seven men; “Little Mermaid”, glamorizing partial nudity; and the list goes on.

Indeed it is a great struggle for the parents in this age to protect their children when evil is so widespread. Muslims parents are supposed to standout and prevent their children from watching these things. But when the parents give in to this evil, it will only send wrong signals to the children - making them believe that watching such things are socially and religiously acceptable.

We seek Allaah’s protection for ourselves and our children.

Brief Comments on Riyaadh al-Saaliheen #98

“Those who lag behind in joining the front rows, in the congregational prayers, will eventually lag behind in doing other righteous deeds as well.”

Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

As for the men, whenever they precede (in joining the front rows), that is better for them; for the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم had warned against those who lag behind (in joining the front rows):

If people will continue to lag behind, Allaah will put them at the back.
[Saheeh Muslim (878)]

This is dangerous! Whenever a person lags behind in joining the first row or the second or the third, he will find that Allaah تعالى has put in his heart the love of lagging behind in doing other righteous deeds (as well) – and Allaah’s refuge is sought from this.

This is why (he صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: If people will continue to lag behind, Allaah will put them at the back.

So you, O my brother, should be (persistent) in joining the first row.

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen of Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen (5/111)]

Do not respect the Baatil opinions

Shaikh Saaleh al-Fawzaan حفظه الله said:
The statement of those who say: “Have respect for the views and the speech (of others)” - this statement of theirs is falsehood. Nothing is to be respected except the TRUTH. As for the falsehood, then it is never to be respected or honored. Rather, falsehood is to be refuted, and eliminated, and people are to be warned against it, otherwise, it will be the cause of destruction for the Ummah if everyone were upon error.

Correct the error or remain silent?

What we are supposed to do:
Take the good and CORRECT the bad
- a principle which is based on the Qur’aan AND the Sunnah; a principle for which Allaah تعالى revealed the Books and sent His Messengers عليهم الصلاة والسلام. Rather, it is a principle on which depends our salvation as Allaah تعالى mentioned in Surah al-`Asr.

But what they want us to do:
Take the good and leave* the bad
- a principle for which there is no evidence in the Qur’aan OR the Sunnah, unless one twists the Aayaat and Ahaadeeth to support his desires (like how they misquote the Hadeeth of Abu Hurairah and his encounter with the Shaitaan).

* By “leaving”, these people mean: “to remain silent” when one sees an error or an evil.

"Drinking water out of a dirty cup"

An example of when the people give importance to the matters of the Dunya over the matters of the `Aakhirah:

When someone says:

“Take what is good and leave the evil” in a person,

It actually means:

“You can drink water out of a dirty cup.”

Oh, so all of a sudden we don’t want to drink water from a cup having some filth in it, but we can take `Aqeedah from a person who is himself confused or not clear in his `Aqeedah and Manhaj?

We are afraid of what will harm the body but not of what will harm the soul!

Moreover, how do we expect our brothers and sisters to differentiate between right and wrong, when they have just started learning their Deen? Even SOME of those who have read major books of `Aqeedah sometimes get confused about an issue, so how about those who have just started, when they have not even read the basic books like Kitaab al-Tawheed, Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and others? Do we want them to have a shaky foundation and confused `Aqeedah?

Note: as for the Hadeeth about Aayat al-Kursi, that whoever recites it before going to sleep, then an Angel will come for his protection; we do not take it because Shaitaan said so. Rather, we only accept it because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم affirmed it.

{Say (O Muhammad): “This is my way; I invite unto Allaah with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allaah i.e. to the Oneness of Allaah - Islaamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge. And Glorified and Exalted be Allaah (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikoon.”} [Surah Yusuf (12): 108]

Look at who you accompany

A person can never be safe when he accompanies the innovators, or the deviants, or the callers of misguidance. He will – directly or indirectly – be affected by their misguidance. It is like accompanying a blacksmith at his shop. Even if you are safe from the sparks from the furnace, the smoke from the furnace and the unpleasant smell coming thereof and that of the blacksmith will definitely get to you.

Narrated Abu Moosaa رضي الله عنه: Allaah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace); from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn you or your clothes, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof.”
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim]
