From the Proofs of `Uluww (Highness/Transcendency) of Allaah تعالى:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Among the many proofs, Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله also mentioned:

As for the proof from the Fitra: Allaah has made all of the creation, the Arabs and non-Arabs, even the animals upon the natural disposition of believing in Him and His `Uluww. There is no servant that turns toward his Lord with supplication or worship except that he finds within himself a sense of requesting from One High above. He turns with his heart towards the sky, not to the right or left. And no one deviates away from this reality except someone who has been corrupted by Shayaateen and desires.

Abu Al-Ma`aalee al-Juwainee used to say in his gatherings: “First, there was Allaah and nothing else*. And now He is upon what He is upon.” He sarcastically means by this the denying of Allaah’s rising over the throne. So Abu Ja`far al-Hamadaanee said: “Say, we leave off mentioning of the throne - because it is established by the legislation anyway - and inform us about this sense that we find within our hearts. No one with knowledge has ever called: saying: ‘Oh, Allaah!’ except that he finds in his heart a natural sense of seeking from One high above. He does not turn to his right or left so how do we repel this natural sense in our hearts?”

So Abu Al-Ma`aalee cried out, struck his (own) head** and said: “al-Hamadaanee has confused me!, al-Hamadaanee has confused me!”

[Fath Rabb al-Bariyyah bi talkhees al-Hamawiyyah pg. 42]

[This is also reported by Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmoo` al-Fataawa (3/220, 4/44 and 4/61) and also by Imaam al-Dhahaabee in Siyar A`laam al-Nubalaa’ (14/20) and also in al-`Uluww (1/259/582)]

*In another narration it is: “There was Allaah without the Throne, and He is upon what He was upon previously.”

**And got up from his chair and (the environment) in the Masjid was like as if the world came to an end. [وصارت قيامة في المسجد]
