The Second Pillar of Islaam

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Establishing the Salaah

{ إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا}
{Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours.} [Surah al-Nisaa’ (4):103]

Meaning: Linguistically: The word Salaah has many meaning, but the original meaning of it is al-Du`aa (supplication). As Allaah تعالى says:

{ وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنَّ صَلَاتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَّهُمْ}
{and invoke Allaah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them} [Surah al-Tawbah (9):103]

Shar`ee meaning: It is the worship of Allaah with specific wordings and actions, which begins with Takbeer and ends with Tasleem.

What it implies: It is worshiping Allaah upon sincerity and firmness, doing what is required in it (from the actions like Rukoo`, Sujood etc.) and completing it within its specific time.

Benefits: From its benefits is the expanding of the breast, the coolness (pleasure) of the eyes and the rejection of shameful and evil deeds.
