Brief Comments of Shaikh Ibn Baaz on Saheeh al-Bukhaaree #19

Praying perfectly

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Imaam al-Bukhaaree رحمه الله said:

Book of Prayer Times: Chapter: {(And remain always) turning in repentance to Him (only), and be afraid and dutiful to Him; and perform As-Salaah (the prayers) and be not of Al-Mushrikeen} [Surah al-Room (30):31]

Narrated Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما: Once a delegation of `Abdul-Qais came [1] to Allaah’s Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم and said: ‘We belong to such and such branch of the tribe of Rabee`ah and we can only come to you [2] in the sacred months [3]. Order us to do something good so that we may (carry out) take it from you and also invite to it our people whom we have left behind (at home).’ The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “I order you to do four things and forbid you from four things. (The first four are as follows):

1. To believe in Allaah - and then he explained it to them - to testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah and I (Muhammad) am Allaah's Apostle.
2. To offer prayers perfectly (at the stated times).
3. To pay Zakaah (obligatory charity). [4]
4. To give me Khumus. [5]

(The other four things which are forbidden are as follows):

1. Dubbaa’. [6]
2. Hantam.
3. Muqaiyar. [7]
4. Naqeer [8].” [9]

[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (523, 1398, 3095, 3510, 4368, 4369, 6176, 7556) and Saheeh Muslim (23)]

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:

[1] They came from the east (of the `Arabian peninsula) and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم honored them and welcomed them.

[2] Because of the fighting (between them and the other tribe).

[3] The sacred months are Rajab, Dhul-Qa`dah, Dhul-Hijjah, and Muharram. (The delegation could only come in these sacred months because the people of that time would have truce and not fight each other in these 4 sacred months – and this tradition is still continued in Islaam as well).

[4] (At this time) Hajj was still not made obligatory.

[5] (One-fifth of the spoils of war) were to be brought to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

[6] (All these are utensils used for the preparation of alcoholic drinks) He صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade them this so that even the means of getting intoxicated are removed. But he later allowed them the use of these utensils and only forbade them consuming (or preparing) intoxicants.

[7] (A substance like) bitumen (it is black, hard and brittle but softens when chewed).

[8] From the stems of the date-palm.

[9] And in this (Hadeeth we learn) that delegations should (be sent to) inquire about good and (beneficial) knowledge.
