Narrated `Abdullaah ibn `Umar: The Apostle of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم
went out on the day of Badr along with three hundred and fifteen (men). The
Apostle of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
اللهم إنهم حفاة فاحملهم ، اللهم إنهم عراة فاكسهم ، اللهم
إنهم جياع فأشبعهم
“O Allaah! They are on foot, provide mount for them; O
Allaah! They are naked, clothe them; O Allaah! They are hungry, provide food for
them.”
Allaah then bestowed victory on them. They returned when
they were clothed. There was no man of them but he returned with one or two
camels; they were clothed and ate to their fill.
[Sunan Abu Dawood (2747), and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh
al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (1003)]
Narrated Ibn `Abbaas: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم,
while in a tent (on the day of the battle of Badr) said:
اللهم
إني أنشدك عهدك ووعدك
اللهم إن شئت لم تعبد بعد اليوم
“O Allaah! I ask you the fulfillment of Your Covenant and Promise. O Allaah! If You wish (to destroy the believers) You will never be worshipped after today.”
Abu Bakr caught him by the hand and said: “This is
sufficient, O Allaah's Apostle! You have asked Allaah pressingly.” The Prophet
was clad in his armor at that time. He went out, saying to me:
}سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ
الدُّبُرَ * بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَى وَأَمَرُّ{
{There multitude will be put to flight and they will show
their backs. Nay, but the Hour is their appointed time (for their full
recompense) and that Hour will be more grievous and more bitter (than their
worldly failure).}
[Surah al-Qamar (54):45-46)] [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2915, 3953,
4875, 4877)]
Question :
ReplyDeleteWhy did Prophet ask them to provide food / clothes /etc when its a test from Allah ? When we face tests from Allah, do we ask Allah to make us get rid of bad situations ? How do we know if Allah is testing us ?
For your first question: I understand that by your sentence “Why did Prophet ask them”, you mean “Why did the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم ask Allaah”, because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم did not ask his Companions to supply food and clothing, but he صلى الله عليه وسلم directly supplicated to Allaah to provide it for them.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for your question “why?” then do we not read in the Qur’aan:
{There is no sin on you if you seek the bounty of your Lord} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 198]
{"Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!"} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 201]
As for your second question: “do we ask Allah to make us get rid of bad situations?” Then yes, we do ask Allaah Alone in all situations, either in time of ease or in times of difficulties. There are many Ahaadeeth where the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم the supplication to be said at the time of a calamity / distress / or death of a person:
“To Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allaah! Recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.” [Saheeh Muslim]
“O Allaah! I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being over powered by men.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree]
As for your third question then know that every aspect of our lives is a test, either we are in a state of happiness and blessings or in difficulties and sorrow. In times of happiness we are tested if we are grateful to Allaah or not, as Sulaimaan عليه السلام said:
{"This is by the Grace of my Lord – to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! And whoever is grateful, truly, his gratitude is for (the good of) his own self; and whoever is ungrateful, (he is ungrateful only for the loss of his own self). Certainly my Lord is Rich (Free of all needs), Bountiful.”} [Surah al-Naml (27):40]
Narrated Suhayb ibn Sinan ar-Rumi: Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer; for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allaah), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shown resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it.” [Saheeh Muslim]
